    Hello all

I've applied for and been accepted on a BSc in Podiatry in Belfast however due to finances plan to defer for a year.

Research i did before applying indicated podiatry is a growth industry I am however struggling to find much information on podiatry jobs in Rep of Ireland.

I'd be grateful for any current working podiatrist's views on podiatry as a developing industry in Ireland? Ultimately my dream would be to use podiatry as a way to resettle in Rep of Ireland after many years away.

    With thanks

    Hi Gorey Girl :welcome:
I'm a recently qualified pod working in the Rep of Ireland. The best way to find out about pod jobs here is to email the Irish Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists. I have found work but I'm been told it is not as plentiful as a few years ago. This is probably of course due to the financial recession in Ireland where everyone who is self employed is being affected in some way. There are also more Aussie qualified Pods coming over than before although they tend to stay a couple of years at most, very few settle here.
I do think the profession is growing slowly but surely especially with the introduction of the first Rep of Ireland School of Podiatry in NUI Galway.
Hope this had been of some help to you :D

    Hi Youngpod

    Thanks for the reply

I did consider Galway but Belfast is 3 years versus 4 years and I'm more likely to be able to pick up part time work in my current profession (occupational health) up there too.

I agree the recession has probably had a huge impact and am hoping that the 4-5 years it will take me to hit the industry will allow it to abate somewhat.

Thanks for the tip about the Society? Can I ask if you managed to get work in your location of choice or have you had to move away to get work?

I worked in Dublin as a pod over summer covering a lady while on holiday. A lot of podiatrists need maternity covering & hols etc. Work is available you just have to be persistant.

As soon as you qualify get your CV out before any one else

    Hi GoreyGirl,
well in that case Belfast is the better option for you! Yes I'm sure things will go back to normal onec/if this recession tones down :pigs: In response to your question I have found work but yes I have had to travel and any young pods I've spoke to have said the same! But as Lucypod says persistance pays off!!
