Hi all,
I am a student in the UK having to critically appraise a research article.
The paper I have chosen to critique is:

'The feet of overweight and obese yound children: are they fat or flat?'

Could anyone give me their opinion on the relevance of this study to podiatric care, is it useful to know that these childrens feet are flat instead of fat?

As you have probably gathered we aren't the sort of bunch to do the work for you. As David suggested, why don't you tell us your thoughts on the article you chose and then we can comment on and discuss things from there.

Remember a critical appraisal is not just about deciding if a study is relevant. It is looking at the design of the study, deciding if the methodology was the best way to answer the research question, checking the appropriate statistical tests were applied, analysing if the conclusions which were made were well founded, identifying any potential limitations of the study... etc etc

We do and you may learn a ton of stuff in a short time, you may teach us some stuff as well who knows- but the ball is in your court.

 

Also im not sure you can reference Ian and Michael, not that theyre words arnt wisdom, just read ians blogs and youll learn more in 10 minutes than 3 years with me, but your lecturers will want references to statements and youll need to show clear thought process, its no good saying Mr. Griffths (2011) said..........

That said id first critique the journal for scientific merit and follow with something like "
A good indicator to the reliability of a solid research question or indeed a study is to critique the authors themselves, as mastering the relevant literature prior to a primary study, in the form of a systematic review indicates an astute scholar researcher. The acknowledgment of an established field researcher is of benefit to the studies reliability." ect ect

If you have a lecturer you dont like critique thier paper , i wish i did when i had to do it at univeristy.
