    Hi,

I have been working in rural Australia for the last 30 years.
Recently we have had a new Orthopaedic Surgeon move to the area and he specializes in foot surgery.
I have seen 2 patients recently who had HAV surgery and in both cases the 1st MPJ has been fused. Both times the patient has been told this is the new trend in HAV surgery. Is this a fact? I am reluctant to send patients, because this seems counterintuitive to everything I've learned and read.

I have no seen that trend, either clinically or in the literature.
