A patient of mine has used his brother's 0.075 capsaicin cream on his heel to reduce his plantar fasciitis pain.Patient had typical presentation had gone thru various treaments no real improvement, then reported that he had used this cream which his brother used for his diabetic neuropathy. The patient did report that prior to using the cream he could not feel creams such as ralgex which he had applied. He appplied this cream could not feel it for 24hours then reported it "burnt like mad" but felt his heel pain improved.Patient has no neuropathy ,reflexes present, bit of a puzzle .Has any one else come across this?

Must have totally depleted his P substance (pain neurotransmitter).

Interesting. Capsaicin is a known irritant, yet studies indicate that the Chili Pepper flare, although induces burning sensation and increased blood flow, does not involve the release of histamine or substance P :drinks

No release of histamine and substance P in capsaicin-induced neurogenic inflammation in intact human skin in vivo: a microdialysis study

Topical capsaicin in the treatment of cutaneous disorders
