Can anyone tell me where I can get Q tips for usage in post nail removal phenol application in the UK. Couldn't find any with Algeos, Canonbury, C and P medical supplies.

Funnily enough I tried to source a similar item about 2 years ago for use with liquefied phenol.

When I worked in the NHS we used pre-packed, sterile cotton buds to phenolise. Now since the event of Ezeswabs these are no longer readily available.

Odd thing is though that when you order Ezeswabs each pack comes with 'additional swabs.' Non sterile, although for what use is your own guess???

Very frustrating that my hours attempting to source sterile cotton buds on the net came up with an Indian firm for lab' supplies who would only supply in bulk!

I could pass the spares to my daughter for her make up bag. :D

What does puzzle me is that Ezeswabs are a licensed medical device. The pack, as I mentioned, includes a pack of approx' 20 'optional' non-sterile buds without phenol!

I asked the supplier could I purchase the buds separately?

Nope :rolleyes:

My puzzlement was why are non-sterile applicators okay to use if you pay £70 + for their product? I do realise it is because the product holds a medical license, just don't think it makes sense.

I think more competition is needed in the bud market. ;)

I make my own using either the stainless steel fine rods with a twist at the end for that purpose, or a blacks file ,both of which are in my surgery pack.

If you have a vacuum autoclave that can process hollow loads: sterilise some ordinary cotton buds but remove the cotton from both ends first and pop them in a sealed pack ready for when you need them. Tried the Ez-ee swabs and didn't like them; expensive and they result in a higher regrowth rate.

The Nucare ones are OK but they are wooden and the cotton wool at the end goes a bit fluffy

Just a thought. I was wondering if any of our colleagues elsewhere in the world use liquified phenol for nail surgery & if so how they apply the product to the area?

Whilst at uni we used to use the inside of a melolin dressing which is sterile on the end of a blacks file and then rasp away hope this helps and they cost about 10p
