Had a look at Our friend Brians website today, for reasons I shan't go into.

I knew he did "distance consultations" where he looks carefully at photos of you standing still and sends you the insoles.
What i didn't realise was how much this service cost. *
Are you ready for this?
Twenty
Thousand
Euros.
I've been wanting to use this gif for ages.
Makes P&B look like the cut price budget version! And at least they actually SAW you, rather than picking a PCI off a shelf and humming and hawing over which of the 3 wedges to stick to it.
Just thought I'd share.
* Plus however mush to sort out the SHL arising from the saggital plane blockade of course ;)

It was a close tun thing between the OMG cat and the overly dramatic chipmunk BTW.

This reminds me of the case of a chiropractor in the USA who took photos of his patients backs and then would psychically manipulate them via the photo in their absence and bill it to the insurance company ... he ended up in jail for fraud.

There's a guy across the street who has in the past treated people by manipulating a teddy bear in his lap while they're on the phone. I'm with Simon on this, God help the person buying into these practices! -

Omg I have a Rothbarts foot! Fortunately it is responding nicely to SALRE based orthotics I had made by my lab, so I won't have to spend $20k euros on his therapy.
I would however like to send him my patient who was "crippled" by her Dr. scholls custom fit orthotic insoles, she got them after trying powersteps for 5 days. Have a crack at her, Dr./;-). Everyone else in town has also failed miserably on her therapy. Maybe he can even fix her sore toenails over the interweb. -
Obviously more profitable in euros than it was here in $. Learned to think more about feet and posture from his influence. Parted ways with the interference of ego, profiteering, divorce and unscrupulous associates. Still use the handy measuring tool though.

How can that price be justified - I'll admit I'm not aware of his personal assessment procedures, but still.
I was looking into PCI's a while ago because an osteopath working in the same building I was decided to dispense them. Hence I did some investigation & about 4 years ago (where amongst other things) there was a web site that stated a 5min. assessment was all that was needed to get your own PCI's over the net. Later the osteopath's colleague invited me to do a PCI training course... for a few hundred dollars. I declined, an email exchange ensued... where I was eventually given a pair of PCI's... a rubber insole with either a 3.5, 6 or 9mm 1st ray bar (wedge) raise (extended distally to edge of insole) - in my case a 3.5mm bar raise.

I've only just seen this thread. This is unbelievable.
And for this he charges up to 20,000 Euros??? (£16,500 / US$26,000)
I would propose we play a little 'secret shopper', but this greedy so and so charges 100 Euros (£83 / US$130 / AUS$122) just for the phone consult!
Clearly unethical, and terrifying that this is allowed to happen. -
It would appear that the concept of "rothbarts foot" and PCIs in general are creeping back into the public conciousness. Alarming... -
Not really one for a title
but are you not normally Dr or Professor not both at the same time ? -
Hi Mike
Depends where in the world you are. In the UK, 'doctor' is the highest level of academic qualification which can be awarded by a university. To have the title 'professor' indicates that you 'hold a seat' in a given subject at a university. In other words, you are the top dog. Naturally, you don't lose the title once you leave, so if you were to have the title for eg. 'Professor of Obstetrics at the University of Birmingham Medical School' then you most certainly would not use 'Dr'. However, I understand that elsewhere in Europe, and possibly other parts of the world, 'professor' can simply mean 'teacher'.
As has been discussed elsewhere in these pages, many'Doctors' of medicine in the UK hold degrees in medicine and surgery but not doctorates (although some do). Thus they have the courtesy title 'Dr' whilst surgeons revert to the old title 'Mr'. I have a teaching qualification and am a Podiatric Surgeon. Does that mean I could be a courtesy Dr/Professor/Mr? Will it get me 'bumped up' to first class on flights? Will it allow me to charge 20k euro for a pair of orthoses? Will my professional body ethical committee be interested? Will the hospitals where I enjoy privileges accept this?
These things are imponderables, but one thing I do know. I have never knowingly 'ripped anybody off' and I can look myself in the eye in the mirror every morning, as, I suspect, is the case with the vast majority of practitioners on these pages.
Cheers

I can categorically declare that Rothbart has NOT received a Jedi certificate from me! Must be some other type of artistry...?

Quite right. -
As you will discover, proprioceptive insoles are simply a tool to reverse incalcitrant postural distortions that results in chronic musculoskeletal pain in any or all of the postural articulations. -
How do you assess the intrinsic foot muscles over the phone ?
-
Over the past year, over 13,000 reads, on my research, have been registered on the ResearchGate website. I have had many interesting exchanges of ideas (on ResearchGate).
This discussion needs to be extended to the Podiatry forum. -
What is the process of Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy?
Following is the process of Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy - the only treatment that brings about a permanent great reduction or total elimination of chronic muscle and joint pain caused by two common, inherited abnormal foot structures - the Rothbarts Foot and the PreClinical Clubfoot Deformity.
1) Intake and Assessment
Questionnaires will be emailed to you to fill out. Your answers will give Professor/Dr. Rothbart initial information about your chronic pain problem(s).
An Initial Phone Consultation is then scheduled. During your phone consultation, the doctor will answer your initial questions about your chronic pain problem(s) and whether he feels that you might have one of the two abnormal foot structures that he treats.
To know for sure that you do have either a Rothbarts Foot or PreClinical Clubfoot Deformity, you will then take specific postural photos of your body and email them to the doctor.
2) Proprietary Computer Postural Analyses
Professor/Dr. Rothbart will run extensive proprietary computer analyses of the postural photos you have sent him. A telephone appointment is then scheduled to discuss the results.
The analyses of your photos give Professor/Dr. Rothbart the wealth of information that he needs in order to determine that you are a candidate for Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy. This information includes:
- Your specific foot structure and its' severity
- The possible additional presence of a mixed pattern (cranial, visual, TMJ problems, etc.)
- The type and strength of proprioceptive insole needed to start the process of normalizing the distorted signals generated by your abnormal foot structure and initiate the healing of your body
- The approximate duration and cost of your therapy
3) Prescriptive Rothbart Proprioceptive Insoles:
Based on the results of his computer analyses, Professor/Dr. Rothbart custom designs and fabricates proprioceptive insoles made to fit and function in simple, flat-bottom, non-orthopedic shoes.
Your healing begins once your start to stand on and walk in your prescriptive proprioceptive insoles. With each step, corrected signals are sent from your feet to your brain (cerebellum). Acting on these signals the brain corrects your posture, which eliminates the stress on your joints and muscles. They then begin to heal.
4) Continual Patient Monitoring (required for complex cases):
As your body heals, it will go through changes and these changes are carefully monitored during your entire therapy. A close and continual connection is maintained by weekly email updates that you will send to Professor/Dr. Rothbart. He uses these updates to determine when there are issues that need his immediate attention.
For any questions you may have during your therapy (or when Professor/Dr. Rothbart needs to speak with you), office or telephone appointments are promptly scheduled.
5) Ongoing Treatment (required for complex cases)
Computer analyses are run periodically to determine when the strength of the stimulation within your insoles needs to be adjusted, in order to continue your postural corrections and the healing process. Based on these analyses, a new set of Rothbart Proprioceptive Insoles will be designed and dispensed.
Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy can take only a few weeks or, in complex cases, up to six to eighteen months to complete. When the results of the computer analyses tell Professor/Dr. Rothbart that your posture is now both anatomically correct and stable (thus allowing your body to heal itself) and when you are satisfied with the results you have obtained, your therapy is then complete. At the completion of your therapy you will have a permanent great reduction or total elimination of your chronic pain.
Following your therapy as instructed by Professor/Dr. Rothbart, is crucial to its' success. For more information, please read the Patient's Commitment.
It is important to note that there are some distributors selling pre-fabricated insoles (which Professor/Dr. Rothbart invented years ago) directly to the public. The wearing of these insoles is not Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy.
If you have a Rothbarts Foot or a PreClinical Clubfoot Deformity, the consequences of using these pre-fabricated, non-prescriptive insoles can range from disappointing to debilitating. For this reason, Professor/Dr. Rothbart strongly advises people not to buy insoles directly from an insole distributor or doctor who is not fully trained and certified in the use of Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy.
If you have a Rothbarts Foot or a PreClinical Clubfoot Deformity, permanent pain elimination can only be obtained by exactly following the entire process of Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy. -
So no assessment at all of the toe flexors and no attempt to address any potential strength deficits ?
Do you ever prescribe strengthening exercises to any of your patients ?
Here is something you said recently
"For years I attempted to stabilize foot mechanics by using a supportive type insoles (orthoses). These orthoses typically incorporated an arch support with forefoot posting (wedging). They were very effective for controlling foot, knee and low back pain, but at a very high price. Over the years, it became apparent to me that by supporting the foot I was weakening it (e.g., inner arch collapsed more and more)"
