Hi there

I am looking to purchase some Loceryl, and wondered as a podiatrist, can I get hold of it at a price lower than RRP?

If anyone has any ideas on this, I would love to hear from you.

I'm pretty sure in Australia its classified as a scheduled drug and Podiatrists cannot "legally" purchase for sale or distribution to patients. Don't know about other countries....

 

I work with an Australian podiatrist whom has NEVER heard of the stuff!

Doesn't surprise me - try Gordhochom, thats not a scheduled drug it is a topical, has some research behind it and in my opinion does a semi-decent job if used for extended periods at around 1/3rd the price of Loceryl 5%.

If you are HPC Registered you can purchase Loceryl from one of the Chiropody Supply Houses like CPL or Ch Express

If you are not you can buy Curanail (it is a smaller quantity) which is the over the counter version.

on the other hand if you are not HPC Registered you should not be supplying and drugs over the counter or otherwise

Hi Clair,

As suppliers charge a HUGE mark up on Loceryl I usually suggest to patients to ask for Amorolfine from their GP. Then they only pay the prescription charge. (usually £7.20)

Hi there, I am indeed HPC registered, however I may suggest to my patient that she go to her GP for a prescription. Will help us all out I feel!

I have just ordered tioconazole from 'GPSupplies' and this is costing iro £30, so if your GP won't prescribe it you can order it if you have a POMs anotation on the HPC register. You could probably get it from the pharmacy too.

tioconazole is not Loceryl it is Trosyl,which is more expensive than amorolfine.

As I said earlier if you really want Loceryl (nail lacquer) and the patient has only a couple of nails to treat, get them to use Curanail ,which is the same thing ,and they can buy it over the counter from any chemist.

Thanks Tony I do know that, perhaps I was going off on a tangent, it was only that I was dealing with it earlier in the day:eek: It was only suggested as an alternative as Loceryl is only available in small quantities as an over the counter product, Trosyl may therefore be a cheaper in the long run!

Thanks for all your input. I will in the first instance take the GP prescription route but will be considering your suggestions if this is unsuccessful. Before I go, can I ask how best to appy Loceryl. Sometimes practitioners have had faster results using slightly different methods to those suggested in the pack. Thanks for all your help on this!
