    Hi

Can anyone tell me if a Foot health care practioner can advertise in the section for chiropodist and podiatrist in yell online and yellow pages?
In our local area a foot health practitiner is advertising under this section and has omitted any details regarding her training as a foot health practitioner only. Her advert launches in to treating corns, cal etc. no mention of qualifications. Surely this is misleading the public and should be stopped.
Can anything be done to stop this..............thoughts please

    Disgruntled Podiatrist.....Why bother training!

Re: Foot Heaith Practioner advertising with Yellow Pages

I would have thought this is misleading at best, but Yell folk are going to take her word for it, they just want a sale. I had the problem of a FHP directly leafleting my clients offering a cut price nail cutting....it was worded FULLY QUALIFIED then in much smaller print FHP. Jo Public is not going to know. I called the HPC who said they would investigate, whether they did I don't know, but she is no longer practicing.

A foot health Practitioner is not a Chiropodist or Podiatrist and should not be advertising in this section. You should contact Yell and the HCPC. Yell should ask each advertiser for their HCPC number before accepting an advert. FHP's should not give the public the impression that they are a Chiropodist or Podiatrist or practice Chiropody or Podiatry or they can face a fine up to £5000.

I have reported someone to the HCPC for advertisg they were a FHP but could provide 'all your Podiatry needs'. The HCPC wrote to them and they ceased advertising in this way. I believe that in order to retain protection of our title we should be vigilant and report mis-advertising. I am sure the HCPC do not trawl yellow pages looking for these type of adverts.:boxing:

    Thank you .

I have reported it to Yell and HCPC. I think we should all be very vigilant and report any misleeading advertising in our local area. The foot health practitioner in my area advertises heavily and the public are very unaware of the difference.
I was asked by a patient if i was as well qualified as the foot health care practitioners in my area as some of them use lots of letters after their name and use lots of what i would call smoke in mirrors treatments....footbaths, rubs, loads of padding etc. They are also treating nursing home patients which i think are highrisk. One in our local area is treating patients for £15.00 and i can't compete with that.
I like all the other private HCPC registered podiatrists are heavily regulated my instruments have to be sterilised, my steriliser needs to be callibrated, my shop has to be PAT tested and i have to have profesional indemnity and public liability....all the above cost.
The increase in the number foot health practitioners who do not have to worry about the above is driving the cost of treatment down. I have a shop unit that meets all the required standards. I feel the increase in the number of foot health practitioners is dumbing our profession down and soon we will all be working in a poky cheap unit at the back of our local hairdressers!

I read one website lately from a local foot health practiitioner and she described herself as similiar to a chiropodist/podiatrist.
I think it is all a bit worrying.
