I have recently been offered a place studying Podiatry, however one of the conditions is that i complete a 2 day observational assessment with a qualified podiatrist. I have rung and emailed several with no luck.
I am looking for a placement preferably in Buckinghamshire, however, I am willing to travel outside of this area if I need to.
Any help will be very much appreciated.

is this normal practice, to offer a place under this condition, I didn't shadow no-one until my interview (but that was in 1992)?

 

When I started the course at Hudds (2002-2005 it think, I might have forgoten!!) it was suggested I shadow prior to application but it wasn't a requirement for entry.

I rang my local NHS trust dept and had a word with one of the team leaders that arranged a day in the acute trust for me (diabetic foot clinic).

So, that's what I would suggest. Get in touch with your local community NHS trust or neighbouring trust and ask the question.

Common sense rules apply obviously, be polite, don't turn up unshaven, tab behind one ear, stinking of whiskey and wearing shorts and a vest.

 

I agree, observing an NHS clinic would certainly be preferable. However, I was approached by a university to provide observational days for prospective and first year students as the students are now being advised that NHS posts upon graduation will be scarce, therefore they should consider private practice. I`m not the only private practitioner who offers this.

We are a private practice based in Weybridge, Surrey. We have had many requests from potential podiatry students to observe our clinics and have always managed to accommodate. (in fact we have a student coming in next week.)

We normally run 2 clinics per day and try to get you in on a day when there is a variety of patients.

If you are happy to travel to Surrey (we are based just off junction 11 of the M25) then send me a message and we will see whant we can do.
