Hi all,

I'm interested in persuing a career in podiatric surgery, however am wondering if it is worth it.

From what I have been told so far the number of people completing the surgical masters far outweighs the number of people who manage to advance on to further stages of the training (i.e. finding pupilage).....this then makes it a very expensive option as the Masters programme is not cheap.

Thoughts anyone?

 

Fair point, but at least you get a masters and the knowledge gained therein, so it's not time or money wasted really. The best thing to do would be to contact your local surgery unit and go and spend some time shadowing and talking to the podiatric surgeons to get a feel for the job and what you have to go through to get there. It's not for everyone, but at least you'll have a better idea when you see for yourself.

 

you post this as if you have no influence in the matter......and some "force" other than your effort, achievements and determination are key determinants of your success....

how about being very positive and determined to find a pupillage? If you go and volunteer in surgical units throughout your msc you will stand a good chance. If you are wondering whether it is worth it before you even begin maybe you are not made of the right stuff to start with? I don't mean this nastily you need to be strong and determined to succeed in this arena - are you right for this? Do you really want it?
