Has there been any update POM pharmacology courses validated by the HPC yet?
I find it difficult to believe that it would be so difficult to impliment extensions
to an existing curricula.

Would this course be open to all HPC or just degree trained ?

I am not trying to start a war here, but I would find it strange that a person with an unrecognised qualification were to allowed to prescribe these types of medicines with no real underpinning knowledge of the bodies systems.

Will they have to do the top-up first.

 

We ran courses at Northampton in 2000 on POMs. In those days it was a 4-day pharm course AND a 4 day physiology course, as you can’t understand drugs without understanding physiology.

This intensive one day course designed to support Podiatrists who hold POMs certification with the HPC to make appropriate use of antibiotic therapy in podiatric practice. The course certifies that those who attend and complete the course have received appropriate update training in antimicrobial usage. This update concentrates on safety, effectiveness and competency in the use of the antibiotics made available to Podiatrists from the 17th November 2006. The primary drugs covered in this update course are Amoxicillin, Erythromycin and Flucloxacillin.


This course is therefore for those who are already POM registered to give them the necessary training to become certified in the sue of antibiotics following (following the additions of ABs to the list last November)
