Hello, my name is Javier

I'm a Podiatry student and I would like to move to Australia when I finish studying. I'd like to work there, specially in Gold Coast, but the problem is that I don't know if I would be able because I haven't studied there. As far as I know, in Australia Podiatry degree lasts 4 years while in Spain it's still 3 years till 2010-2011. Could anyone help me knowing if there's any kind of problem about studying in Spain and trying to work in Australia as a podiatrist?

Javier, The current minimum requirements for registration as a podiatrists from outside of Australia is to have completed a 3 year tertiary course. You then need to sit a few exams.

There is the English language test now applicaple to all OS people (even those from the UK and US)

A part one written exam

A part two practical exam

Expect to study for all exams, and your chances of passing will be much higher.

Javier, I graduated two years ago from studying podiatry at the University of Southampton, UK. I had to send copies of my degree transcripts and an up to date first aid certificate to register with the Australian Podiatry Council. Fortunately, I did not have to take an exam or english speaker although i am a native speaker thats why or prehaps they have changed it now. They will then issue you with a certificate to say they recognise your qualifications

The whole process takes roughly around 3 months. Once you get your registration you then need to decide what state you wish to practice in - in your case its Queensland - so you send of copies of your Australian Podiatry Council certificate which only recognises your ability to practice in Australia. The Queensland board will then hopefully grant your reg - should be easy but with all paper work takes time. I would say your 1st port of call should be to contact the Australian Podiatry Council directly to see whether you need to sit any exams or an eglish test. Hope that helps!!

I believe that your education facility needs to be a recognised one with the Australasian Podiatric Council. If its not on their list you need to do the exams. So you need to ask them.

Also i think you will need to prove an upto date Life Support course now including the use of epipen for anaphylaxis??
