    Hello everyone,

I am a 2nd Yr Podiatry student trying to organise a 4 week placement in Australia for this summer 2012. I am not having much luck with Australian universities so far, so wondered if anyone could help me with some suggesstions or if they know anyone who would kindly allow a student to carry out a placement.

All the help would really be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance...

    S.

This is a bit more complicated than it sounds. For a health service to have any student on placement there needs to be a written agreement between your uni and the health service to ensure safety, liabilities, education requirements etc are all met.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I am aware of that and I have already spoken to my university and podiatry society in UK. My university is more than happy to sign a contract provided I organise and find placement as they are aware of the insurance purposes.

Is there anyone you know who take a student for placement.

  4. Hi there.
I am also a second year student in the UK. I was considering a similar endeavour myself, substituting Canada/USA for Australia. What do you envisage the placement consisting of? Hopefully my university will be similarly open to this as well. Did you have to clear it with the society of chiropodists and podiatrists as well?

Most of the health services take undergraduate podiatry students on placements (usually 3rd and 4th years). Some health services will be "fully booked" with local students, especially from Feb to Nov. It will also depend on which area (State, metropolitan, country etc) you are looking at. Once you know that, contact a few of the podiatry departments in the area you are looking at. The department sizes will vary considerably across all areas from a single practicioner to 15 or more podiatrists, with the type of work also being varied, but leaning more towards the management of the high risk foot.
